Three Barbie dolls are sold every second or so says Mattel, the owner of the Barbie brand. Since 1959 one billion Barbie dolls have been sold in over 150 countries which is no an insignificant feat. Besides the dolls, Mattel launched many Barbie toys and Barbie accessories, all following the same tenet: they are manufactured to about 1/6 scale and they replicate grown ups and real-life objects as opposed to representations of infants as in the pre-Barbie era.
Whether you are a Barbie fan or not, it is undeniable that Barbie toys and dolls have become a cultural icon. Little girls —and often boys too— love all sorts of Barbie stuff and if they could they would own them all! Because this is impossible 🙂 we have carefully selected seven Barbie toys that we regard as representative and tremendously cool.
Most of the items we present below are in different price ranges and for kids ages 3 and up. It has been shown over and over that kids love Barbie stuff passionately and that they are some of the preferred girls toys that kids play with for hours on end. Here we go!
1. Charming Barbie DreamHouse with TV and Coolest Flushing Toilet!
Designed for kids ages 3 to 10 years, this Barbie DreamHouse only takes about 30 to 45 minutes to assemble. The elevator doesn’t run on a string mechanism like in previous versions and hence it’s easier to install. It glides up and down on a rail that you attach to the side of the Barbie Doll Dream House and you can keep Barbie upright thanks to a stand component.
The Barbie Dream House with elevator has three floors: an entryway and kitchen in the first floor; dining room, bathroom and pet room in the second; and bedroom, walk-in closet and living room in the third one, apart from a built-in garage. A hit with kids is the Dream House Barbie TV. You can use your smartphone as television and watch your favorite shows! If you don’t have a smartphone there is TV sticker to make it look like a television set.
Another cool feature of the Barbie DreamHouse is the sliding door of the garage that opens and closes and a pop down window that you can flip down to convert it into a swimming pool. You need three AAA batteries for some of the accessories that light up or make a sound such as the toilet that sounds like it’s flushing, the fan blades that rotate, the aquarium water that bubbles or the grill that sizzles. Aren’t you visualizing your daughter very amused?
2. Barbie Goes Horseback Riding with Awesome Barbie Horse!
Recommended for ages 3 to 10 by the manufacturer, the Barbie Horse toy is quite an event. Your kids will marvel at Barbie quickly jumping on the saddle and the horse walking on its own —about eight steps at a time. Children can easily activate this mechanism that requires 4 AAA alkaline batteries and a flat non-carpeted floor or another hard surface.
The Barbie Saddle ‘N Ride Horse comes with a special Barbie doll in a fashionable outfit attire made specially for riding so it can’t stand like other Barbie dolls. Most kids love the brush for brushing out the Barbie horse’s tail and the fact that Barbi is wearing a safety helmet and riding boots even if they don’t come off.
Don’t expect a typical Barbie doll, this is specially built for riding a horse not for dressing up and undressing; it is a very different doll concept that has already become with children, but really fun and innovative!
3. Stylish Barbie Fashionista Closet Is a Big Hit with Girls
Recommended for 3 to 12 year-old kids, the glamorous Barbie closet comes with real dress hangers. The wardrobe and the compartments are so roomy they can store the trendy fashion the original box includes and several Barbie fashions and accessories you already have or buy separately. This playset also includes shoes, a purse and a girl-sized gemstone ring that your daughter can actually wear.
Interestingly, the Barbie Fashionista Ultimate Closet doubles as a carrying case girls can take anywhere; they only have to secure the large doors with the latch that carries the Barbie logo and off they go! And if you want to enhance the latest fashion fun, there is an app you can download to your iPhone or iPad. The Barbie doll closet is not a starter kit because it doesn’t include Barbies; it is rather for playing with the dolls your daughter already have as the clothes fit standard Barbie dolls.
4. Barbie Moves to New Luxury Barbie Dream House with Two Elevators!
Built for ages 3 to 9 years, the Barbie Dream House is a fully furnished home that reproduces a real house with stunning fidelity and detail. Besides the Barbie dolls, which aren’t included, it comes with lots of amazing accessories like a blow dryer, a towel, a blanket, a pillow, a couch, hangers, one pair of shoes, refrigerator with food… in short, all the furniture and accessories of a well-equipped, comfortable house. 🙂
Some buyers complain that the house is rather hard to assemble. Paradoxically, almost all parents who said this also added that their little ones were extremely happy with the Barbie Dream House and played with it for hours. A second complaint is that the instructions aren’t good enough but this can be easily remedied with a step-by-step instructions video.
The Barbie Dream House with elevator is large enough for three children playing together, which is ideal for large families. In the first floor you have the dining-room and the kitchen with a cute real blender and a light-up oven. On the second floor there are the bathroom with a flushing toilet and a mirror that lights up too. There’s even a pet bed for Barbie’s puppy. On the third floor that Barbie can reach with the elevator, you’ll find a TV set with multiple channels, a fantastic balcony and a glamorous closet with everything that Barbie needs for an elegant evening out!
5. On an Adventure Road Trip with Barbie Glam Camper
Created for ages 3 to 10, the Barbie pink RV fits 2 or more Barbies (dolls not included) that are going on a camping trip. The assembly is very easy and most girls can manage it without help. The Barbie doll camper is so realistic it even has a toilet like the real ones! The Barbie van comes with fire pit, pool and detachable car and lots of incredible accessories like a chandelier and a kitchen with oven, fridge, cabinets, a sink and accessories like cups, plates, pans, a lemonade dispenser and even some food such as eggs and cereal boxes. It has a similar attention to detail as the large Barbie Dream House we discuss elsewhere.
Further, the Barbie Sisters Life in The Dreamhouse Camper features a bedroom with fold-down double bed and two bunk beds —some smart girls immediately noticed that there is no ladder for Barbie to climb to the top bed. For outdoor entertainment there is a pool that fits into the fold-out back of the van and two lovely pink camping chairs, and of course the cute campfire we mentioned above.
6. Barbie and Ken: the Epitome of the Barbie Dreamhouse Dolls
Ken and Barbie are for ages 3 – 10 years. The Barbie doll is very close to the character in Barbie Life in the Dreamhouse, the animated, popular web series. Barbie is pretty and has beautiful, soft hair and false, neat eyelashes. The Barbie Life in The Dreamhouse Barbie Doll also includes cute shoes, an extra dress and lovely jewelry.
Boyfriend Ken is handsome and attractive and his clothes look gorgeous on him although some buyers complain that Ken could’ve been closer to the popular series. Ken is blond, and his hair is soft and styled in a very modern, cool way! Both Barbie and Ken dolls are fully articulated, even the legs of the Barbie Life in The Dreamhouse Ken Doll bends at the knees and the wrists move, a feature that is very hard to find in a Ken doll.
7. Glittery Barbie Convertible Looks Like a Real Car!
Recommended for ages 3 to 10, this glamorous pink convertible has enough room for two Barbie dolls. Or you can also fit Barbie and Ken inside the Barbie convertible if your child prefers it. The car rolls smoothly and features cute details like decorated wheels, a GPS, dashboard, a personalized license plate that says BARBIE, and of course the seat belts that girls can fasten and make the passengers safer! It even includes a coffee cup for more fun.
The only complaint from buyers is that the doors don’t open, but all other aspects of the Barbie Glam Convertible have been acclaimed by virtually all parents that purchased one for their kids. Mostly it’s a toy car thought for little girls, but I don’t see why little boys couldn’t enjoy playing with the Barbie convertible car too. Soon your children will be driving her dolls around your home non stop!
