The Melissa and Doug latches board is another in the series of famous Melissa and Doug puzzles that will entertain and educate your preschool children from 2 to 5 years old, although according to some mothers’ comments, some kids started enjoying this toy since they were 15 months or so.
Be aware that although you see two boards in the picture that show you what it looks like when the little doors are open and when they are closed, the actual puzzle has one single board. It’s also hand crafted and brightly colored as so many Melissa and Doug toys.
The Melissa And Doug Latches Board helps kids identify colors and numbers and learn to count as each latch has a different color, picture and number. Likewise, each little door has a different kind of latch that keeps the child’s attention. The boards are light for toddlers to carry around with them but also sturdy as shows the fact that some give it to their autistic grown-up brothers or children.
The thing is also virtually indestructible. I can say this with confidence because it was tested by the brats next door, and those boys could destroy a padded cell.

The Reviews from parents and other buyers
For many parent this toy is definitely a winner as their toddlers love to play with it very often. One mother explains how his child played with the board the whole time on a long car trip and smartly wants to hide the toy to keep the novelty for their next long road trip
If your child loves to play with mechanical devices and take things apart as much as ours does, then s/he will love this latches board.
The few complaints are mostly related to the second latch that’s too stiff for the little children and to the paint falling off after a while in some cases. Although it’s non-toxic as we mentioned above, parents would prefer this not to happen.
Some parents are afraid that their children pinch their little children, but as a mother recommends, you should always test any toy that comes with metal parts before giving it to your kids. Another person says that there are not any sharp edges and the metal parts are high quality! Another mother even says that she doesn’t understand the complaints about it.
In any case, if your kids have fun latching and unlatching, opening and closing as most children do, if they love discovering animals after opening a door, this is a toy for them.
This educational puzzle brilliantly combines the logic principles of a puzzle with the surprise of a peekaboo flap book that helps develop motor skills. Judging by the impressive number of reviews and the high rating stars, an overwhelming number of parents recommend the Melissa and Doug latch board enthusiastically.
